The first electrical attempt by Mazda, the MX-30, quickly fell into oblivion. The second prizes are attractive.

Why get started?
Just like a BMW i3, for example, the Mazda MX-30 is focused on originality and cultivates the real sense of refinement on board. The presentation is flawless and is accompanied by a slick finish. The materials are not really high, but the Hiroshima brand has not given the savings of the sirens with cheap materials. The central central console is also not thought of the economy, but refers to the primary activity of Mazda, which initially produced cork films. Always on board we appreciate the presentation sufficiently modern with digital instrumentation, a central screen and a touch panel in the middle for air conditioning. Based on the CX -30, the SUV is also pleasant to ride with a serious chassis with the G vector control. Direction, suspension or braking, accompanied by regenerative brake modes, do not lend the flank to criticism. Just like reliability, perfect exemplary!
Why hesitate?
The Mazda MX-30 is impressive and unfortunately does not appear as practical as a compact SUV in the category. If the antagonistic doors at 80 ° opening angle facilitate access to the rear seat, the latter offers a very limited space with regard to the SUV template. Difficult to introduce long journeys with four adults, especially because they will find it very difficult to fit their luggage in the 366 L trunk that is worth the lower category. Above all, the 35.5 kWh battery (30.0 kWh net capacity) considerably limits the operating radius of an SUV of this size. A marriage especially ecologically according to Hiroshima. But with a city dwelling capacity and a consumption of large SUVs, the autonomy takes it for its rank: the WLTP standard gives 200 km on a mixed course, and it will be difficult to perform more than 130 km without a margin on the highway! And quickly charging with 50 kW is not facilitated. In short, the MX-30 reserves for exclusive use in the city!
What to check before you buy?
- Battery status (soh): little chance to observe a loss of capacity on recent models. But in the absence of regulations, ensure that the seller requests a certificate about the deterioration rate in the absence of regulations (SOH). In any case, it benefits from a guarantee of 8 years/160,000 km. The models launched before 1 January 2023 are treated 3 years/100,000 km, then 6 years/150,000 km.
- Electronics: If the cases are rare, the two central screens can have displays. A restart of the car is generally sufficient.
